Clean Harbors Deer Park is seeking a
Control Systems Engineer Intern to join our safety-focused team. This internship provides students with the opportunity to gain hands-on experience while supporting real projects that contribute to business priorities across our environmental, energy, and industrial services operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES- Ensuring Health and Safety is the #1 priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times;
- Work within Operational Technology (OT) environments and alongside industrial equipment such as rotating machinery, instrumentation, and electrical systems.
- Assist in designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting plant control networks (PCN) to ensure secure and reliable connectivity for DCS, PLC, SIS, and other automation systems.
- Support network lifecycle activities, including upgrades, patching, and obsolescence planning for OT network infrastructure.
- Participate in network health checks, diagnostics, and performance monitoring to maintain system integrity.
- Collaborate with Reliability and Automation teams to:
- Improve network reliability and uptime.
- Optimize network architecture for cost efficiency and scalability.
- Implement cybersecurity best practices for OT environments.
- Assist in incident investigations related to network failures and contribute to corrective actions.
- Help maintain network documentation, including topology diagrams, IP addressing schemes, firewall rules, and switch configurations.
- Support capital projects by reviewing network requirements and ensuring compliance with corporate standards.
- Learn and apply industrial communication protocols (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP, OPC UA) and network segmentation principles.
- Provide technical assistance for remote access solutions and secure vendor connectivity.
QUALIFICATIONSWhat does it take to intern with Clean Harbors?- Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in computer, electrical, electronics, or networking engineering at an accredited college or university;
- Strong interested in learning about the environmental services industry;
- Ability to work collaboratively in a professional team environment;
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office or other relevant technical tools;
- Basic understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, switching);
- Familiarity with firewalls, VPNs, and cybersecurity principles is desirable.
